Prince of Cups tarot court card meanings and description

The Prince of Cups represents the airy of
water and he rules the 21st degree of Libra to the 20th degree of Scorpio the combination
is the airy part of water but it represents the characteristics elasticity, volatility
hydrostatic equilibrium, which is very much about the qualities of water being able to
flow over and around the element of air, the airy part of this brings according to Crowley
a catalytic faculty energy of steam, so this is the driving force the motivation for things
to happen, and we will see that this is represented in the Crowley’s depiction of the Prince of
Cups. As in all of the Princes in the Book, Crowley says that the princes are armoured,
actually as you can see, he is completely naked, not a stitch on him. Behind him his
wings, which Crowley says are tenuous, which represents a power of volatilisation, it is
the unstable kind of element or quality to this card, the water comes out of it. His
chariot is pulled by an eagle, below the eagle the water is stagnant, and its rain water
and a putrefactory element which comes to the element of or sign of Scorpio. In his
right hand he holds a lotus which is the symbol of water, and in his left hand there is a
serpent coming out of a cup again there is the Scorpio hidden elements of this card.
Now the card, the depiction of the card is very much a kind of calm sort of presentation
but actually Crowley’s description of the nature of the Princes is much darker. For
example, he says there is a subtlety secret violence and craft, these intense secrets
an artist in all his ways, on the surface he appears calm and unperturbed but this is
a mask of the most intense passion. he is on the surface susceptible to external influences,
but he accepts them only to transmute them to the advantage of his secret designs. Again
this idea of volatilisation on the water working here. He is thus completely without conscience
in the ordinary sense of the word, and is therefore usually distrusted by his neighbours.
They feel they do not, and can never understand him. Thus he inspires unreasonable fear. He
is in fact perfectly ruthless. He cares intensely for power, wisdom, and his own aims. He feels
no responsibility to others, and although his abilities are immense, he cannot be relied
upon to work in harness. He is a bit of a loose cannon, not a team player. On the other
hand if you want someone to find out what is really going on send in your Prince of
Cups Now the consequences of this card is very much to do with the idea of Libra going
into Scorpio and Crowley says, Tremendous, active, critical energy and weight. To such
people good will, sincerity, and right mating are the essentials of success; their danger
is danger is overweening ambition. So despite all these negative qualities there is a great
potential for transformation and change for things that you want.
