Oppression, the Ten of Wands, which is Saturn
ruling the last decanate of Sagittarius. With both cards together we see difference from
the darkness of Yesod to the lightness in Malkuth, and two wands on top. So what does
Crowley say about the Ten of Wands. It refers to Malkuth which depends on upon the other
sephirah but it is not directly communicating with them. That is true on the Tree of Life,
where it is pendant to them, but we are also talking about the last decanate of Sagittarius
where this energy is disintegrating, Sagittarius then goes into Capricorn, which is a heavy
sign. It shows the force detached from its spiritual sources. If you believe the highest
is the most spiritual and the lowest is not, then yes, its true. It becomes a blind force,
so the most violent form for that particular energy without any modified influence. The
flames in the background of the card have run wild, it is in its most destructive aspect.
Its the end of the cycle of fire in astrological terms as well as through the tree of life.
The greatest antipathy is Saturn in Sagittarius, Sagittarius is spiritual swift, Saturn is
slow, heavy, obstinate and obscure. The wands are still crossed, showing the power and energies
of fire, but they have lost their status or patent nobility. which is a heraldic phase. Their
ends seem more like claws, they lack the authority and intelligence shown in the earlier cards.
And in the front are the two formidable dorjes of the Two of Wands, but lengthened to bars.
So we are going back to the Two of Wands, and he talks about the Blind Forces, and the
Blind Forces of course are the Shemhamforash, the 72 spirits of the Goetia as well, so this
is a kind of manifestation of those energies. I don’t agree with him about blind forces,
they are not, they are intelligent and very interesting and very funny, but in the context
of this this is how he describes them. The whole picture suggests oppression and repression,
it is a stupid and obstinate cruelty from which there is no escape. The will Two of
Wands which has not understood anything beyond its dull purpose. This lust for the result,
and here’s the thing you see the Two of Wands is about assuages, no lust for the result,
Its just doing it for the purpose. But now we are just grinding away into submission.
This kind of self destruction is ultimate. So that is the end of this journey through
the Wands cards, from the Ace which has no meaning through the energies of fire and the
Tree of Life, and in particular the decanate system. So now, its time to move on to the
roots of the power of the Waters, which is going to be the Ace of Cups.
